Happy Holidays To All Our CoreNet Northern California
I hope you were able to join our 16th annual CRE Awards dinner on November 17th at the Palace Hotel in San Francisco. The evening honored George Denise, of Cushman & Wakefield, and John Lucas, of Juniper Networks, and was a fabulous recognition of their many contributions to our industry. Attendees were treated to several entertaining videos highlighting our honorees (if you missed the event you can still catch the videos on our website). It was also a great chance for our members to connect with friends and colleagues, and the evening remains one of our outstanding events of the year. Special thanks go out to Nancy Morse, Barbara Lambing, and Ken Miles for their work putting together such a great evening.
This year we have been very fortunate to have the solid support of 44 sponsoring companies – a record for our chapter. Their financial and professional support has enabled our chapter to put on high-quality and informative programs throughout the year. We are now renewing corporate sponsorships for our 2014-15 fiscal year, and a prospectus is available identifying the many benefits that come with the different sponsorship levels. So, a big shout-out to all our current corporate sponsors, and I hope you consider renewing or becoming a sponsoring company in 2014. Please contact Aimee Hallgrimson (email@example.com)or Sandy Heistand (firstname.lastname@example.org) for more information.
This is also the time of year to renew your own CoreNet membership. Our membership has moved to an annual cycle, from January 1 through December 31, so please take a few minutes to renew your membership in the coming weeks. And $100 of your membership dues is paid directly back to our Northern California chapter to support the development of learning and networking opportunities locally.
As we look forward to the coming year, we are currently accepting nominations for three of our board of director positions - executive vice president, treasurer and administrative director. Strong leadership is essential to any healthy organization and I encourage you to nominate a chapter member who would be willing to serve the chapter in the coming year. I can attest that it is a rewarding experience. Nominations are due by December 13, and can be made through NoCalChapter@CoreNetGlobal.org, or feel free to get in touch with me at email@example.com with any input into the process.
It's been another great year for the chapter, and I want to sincerely thank everyone who has contributed through their membership and active involvement. We have some interesting events planned for 2014, so stay tuned for more on that.
I wish you all a joyous holiday season, celebrating with friends and family.

16th Annual CRE Awards Dinner
The CoreNet Global Northern California Chapter celebrated the 16th Annual CRE Executive and Service Provider of the Year Awards in grand style on November 14th. More than 550 members and guests gathered for the celebration at the Palace Hotel in San Francisco where the Chapter honored the career achievements of John Lucas, of Juniper Networks, and George Denise, of Cushman & Wakefield.
The evening began with a spirited reception – always one of the signature portions of the event - in the beautiful and iconic Garden Court of the Palace Hotel. After the guests moved to the Grand Ballroom for dinner, they were welcomed with a video clip from “CoreNet Tonight”, which featured many of our Chapter’s key members and past CRE Honorees.
Following dinner, and a second segment of CoreNet Tonight, it was time for the main event, paying tribute to our honorees. Through two videos showcasing the honoree’s colleagues, family and friends, attendees learned a great deal about how deserving both George and John are and how well-respected and appreciated both are, not only in the industry, but as people.
All the videos from event, and pictures from the evening, can be viewed on the CoreNet website by clicking here
Past honoree Randy Knox (2008) presented the Service Provider of the Year Award to George Denise, and John Bruno presented the CRE Executive of the Year Award to John Lucas - each doing a stellar and thoughtful job. Both honorees were poignant and entertaining in their acceptance speeches, and all in attendance enjoyed not only the acknowledgments of their peers but the many references to their wonderful families. Winners' families were in attendance to share the special moments.
In addition to George, John and their presenters, many others contributed to the outstanding event. Co-Chairs Nancy Morse, of Cornish & Carey Commercial Newmark Knight Frank, and Barbara Lambing, of XL Construction, spent considerable amounts of time and effort throughout the year on all aspects of the program and its many details.
Special thanks also to Bryant Rice of SideMark for lending his time and creative vision in working with the very talented team at PianoFight Productions, who produced both the entertainment videos and the meaningful honoree videos. On the night of the event Chapter President-Elect Michael Casolo, of Jones Lang LaSalle, helped Nancy, the master of ceremonies for the evening, with the official welcome. Outstanding work was done months in advanced by the Nominations Committee led by past honoree Chris Ross (2011). Many others offered ideas and support along the way, and the collaboration led to a wonderful night. As always, this event would not be possible without the significant contributions of our annual sponsors, and we sincerely thank them all.
Work has already began for 17th Annual CRE Dinner in 2014, so stay tuned for details and prepare for more fun!
||CoreNet’s Day on the Bay for the
On September 12, the Northern California Chapter met for a once-in-a-lifetime event celebrating the America's Cup - the oldest sailboat racing competition in the world on our own San Francisco Bay.
More than 400 CoreNet members and their guests enjoyed two races from an ideal viewpoint at sea aboard the luxurious California Hornblower yacht. In addition to the action and beautiful scenery, they enjoyed elegant food and drink, which included an Alfa Tech-hosted wine-tasting featuring outstanding wine from around the world.
The event would not have been possible without the support of our generous event sponsors, Herman Miller, Pivot, XL Construction and Alfa Tech. These sponsors committed to the event early and were key contributors in planning the details, in addition to their generous funding.
Leading the planning committee were members Michael Vallenari and Ashley Dubois, who committed countless hours to making sure all details came together. Also involved in the process from the beginning and literally, until the end as our ship's captain, was member Ed Shea, who many learned is also an accomplished sailor and special event Captain for Hornblower, in addition to his day job.
A great day on the Bay was had by all, and while Oracle Team USA came out on the short end of the racing that day, they ultimately ended up with a dramatic come- from-behind victory over Emirates Team New Zealand to retain the Cup! While the site for the next America’s Cup has yet to be determined, it’s now possible this once-in-a-lifetime event could happen again.
