San Francisco Airport
Terminal 2 Renovation and Construction Site Tour
This 600,000 SqFt,
$383 million renovation project scheduled to open this Fall will be showcased
at our program that will include a site tour as well. The program will cover
the unique design elements and infrastructure systems with speakers to include:
-
Ivar Satero, SFO Deputy Airport Director, Bureau of Design Construction
- Ray Quesada, SFO Project Manager
- Steve Hergert, Gensler Senior Associate
- Kavinder Singh, Turner VP & GM of the Oakland Office
Project Construction
Phase 1 will be completed Q4 2010 and Phase 2 in Q1 2011. Both phases
will be featured in the site tour, with Phase 1 being substantially completed
and phase 2 a bit 'gutsier' in terms of what we see. The building is the
"old international terminal 2" that has been under renovation for 3
years.
There are unique energy saving design
systems featured regarding mechanical & electrical systems, and the project
is going to be LEED Silver - which is challenging to achieve on a major
renovation project of this scale. There are 14 gates & usual components of
bag claim, retail, vending, food service, and connections to other SFO
terminals & parking & AirTran system. The project will incorporate
unique artwork not typical of SFO, plus some interesting gallery spaces for
displaying rotating exhibits. Project cost is $383 million with major
challenges of working around existing critical and secure operations at SFO.
Site Tours will be conducted by Gensler/Turner Teams. Turner and Gensler
have formed a design build team that is the first design build effort for a
major project at SFO.
